Adoption heals a broken heart
Hi, my name is Kim and this is my story:
On January 16th 2011 I lost my 10 year old pug (BEST FRIEND) to cancer...We always laughed and said she was "mommyfied" she ALWAYS had to be touching me whether it be in the car, on the couch or in bed. I was her world as she was mine. We have a baby gate at our hall way and in the spare room is my treadmill and every morning when I would come out from walking there she was sitting at the gate waiting for me. At night she would not lay at our feet, she would lay w/ her butt towards my husband and her head resting on her paws on my pillow. My husband would always tease and say she wouldn't be any happier if he would just duck tape her to my hip..LOL.
Anyways, on Thursday before she passed I had taken her to the vet not acting right, just didn't feel good and by Sunday the 16th she passed away, I was and am BROKEN HEARTED! I had her cremated and the vet made me a paw print in clay before she was cremated. I have cried and cried because of missing her so much. Our daughter and her husband a year ago adopted a puppy and he is just the cat's meow...LOL and we said that if we ever would get another one we would adopt, well....
last saterday hubby said lets go to a couple pet stores to see if there are any babies, we went to the first place and there were some babies but I just didn't connect, sure they were cute but just was not sure so we left and he suggested we stop @ Petco in Wadsworth and we did, well...
as we walked in the door I saw this lady holding the most precious dachshund at the table where there was a rescue organization and I thought to myself wow I hope that is a dog up for adoption and sure enough she was.
Here is her story, she is a 4 year old long hair dachshund that was used for baby making only and lived her whole life in a basement, her foster mom said when they got her 3 weeks ago she didn't even know how to walk on carpet or snow just concrete that would be in a basement. I asked to hold her and she was so scared, I held her for about 20 min decided to sit her down and she just stood there looking up at us, I picked her back up and walked around your store w/ her for about an hour and fell in love as she did me. I knew I was to be her mommy. After filling out the adoption papers I had to leave her w/ her foster parents until Monday so they could call my vet and verify who I was and so on and got the phone call Monday afternoon that I could have her that evening, I can't explain how I felt, actually I was sitting and getting my nails done when I got the call and when I hung up I cried w/ joy.
Now I know why our first stop I didn't have any connections w/ any of the dogs....it is because not only did I need Miss Bailey BUT she NEEDS me. She was afraid and timid when I brought her home Monday night and she slept w/ me just like pugzie did and she started last night wagging her tail a little and slept w/ me again last night and this morning we got up and she followed me down the hall into the living room and kitchen w/ her tail wagging the whole time. I melted my heart.
I have always fed my dogs name brand nutritional food and snacks and walk them or when we go to the lake we put life jacket on our golden and he goes swimming.
We used ropes and play fetch and our other doxie every night brings us his rope or ball to play....
I would love to win this contest for my new adopted little Bailey, she is so deserving of a trip to the spa for what she has been thru her short life until now. It does cost to make sure your babies have the best and I do have 4 other babies and it gets quite expensive and would love to win for the help in that area..LOL

The joys of parenting
How I found my little piglit is a very long story and seeing how I ounly have 50 minutes left to submit my story, I will sum it up a bit. a Friend of a friend knew a guy who had some problems with the law and problems with drugs. And he had a baby pit bull. TO make a long story short, this 3 week old little girl needed much more than a backpack to live in and regular cows milk to drink. So I took her, suggested he get his life squared away, and meanwhile I'll take care of his dog. So I got her on some good formula, Did a ton of research on the breed, and puppy proofed my house ( which is always trial and error :) ) I got to enjoy watching her learn how to walk. When you come home and you see you little baby run towards you for the first time with out falling has to be the most heart warming experience. But she had a pretty rough time learning. She would fall over every time she wagged her tail. Man it was cute. But she got the hang of it. My boy friend and I soon realized the city was no place for a dog with this much energy. So we got a cute little home out in the country on a few acres of land. We call it Kaya's Country dog Spa. We make it a point to take her for at least a little hike every morning before work. We have created a buddy system with our retired neighbor( who adores Kaya) She comes over every day while we are at work and takes her for hike #2. Our neighbor has a key to our house and knows where kaya's emergency kit is with all of her immunization records, licensing record, kennel and vet info just in case something happens while we are gone. We are pretty prone to wildfires our here. We try to plan sunday morning nature hikes with our dog owner freinds. I believe the best way to bond with your dog is to do healthy activities out in nature as a pack. Along with exercise , I make sure I put nothing but the healthiest food in my dogs bowl. All holistic no artificial flavor or colors, no corn or soy either. And I drizzle flaxseed oil on her dish every morning and night. flaxseed is an excellent source of Omega-3 essential fatty acids which is great for their heart skin and coat. And I like to integrate things like blueberries and carrots as healthy treats for positive reinforcement tools while training. I am currently going to massage therapy school as well so I make sure and practice on her at least 15 minutes each night while she is winding down. It is great for muscle recovery after long hikes and it feels good and it make them feel loved :) Our next adventure is going to be rattlesnake avoidance class in april. Snake run rampant around here and I believe that will be the most preventive avenue to take against a bite. I put my dog first and foremost because I took on the responsibility of caring for another life form. She has brought so much love into my soul and I'm a better person for it :) Well that is my short story... And in case you were wondering, that boy is NOT getting her back. It has been almost two years now and he isn't doing any better unfortunately. Well have a beautiful day!

Bella Zoeker - the pretty girl searcher
Bella Zoeker is my search partner - my 5th in 22 years of volunteer service. As such it is imperative that she stay in tip top shape, after all, someone's life may depend on it.
Bella gets lots of exercise, hiking through the Pennsylvania mountains and swimming in the Susquehanna River. Bella plays a key role in educating children on wilderness safety through the Hug-A-Tree program. This allows her plenty of socialization, treats and "kong time" (her favorite activitiy).
Bella has food allergies so we try to stay away from chicken and excessive grains to keep her from a flare up of ear and skin conditions. Both she and her brother, Radar, share this ailment. Through this experience we have learned about healthier feeding habits and the value of dog foods not found in your local supermarket.
Bella's volunteer "job" has kept her busy since she came into my life as a 5 week old puppy who was rescued from a bad backyard breeder. Like Bella, most of my partners have been "second hand dogs". For the most part German Shepherds, however a Rottweiler and also Beaucerons have shared my home.
Bella's health and welfare are always on the forefront of my mind. What she eats is especially important to maintain, not only healthy diet, and weight, but strength, agility, intelligence etc. She is an athlete with a grace and regal air that is unquestionable. I believe that is due to her excellant health and fitness as well as her love and trust in me. We are "loving life enough to look for it". She is the ultimate pretty girl searcher - my Bella Zoeker.

BELLA BLUU AND GUNTHER BEAR

MY GSD DOGS
i have 2 german shepherds one is 5 month female(bella bluu) and a rescue gsd male who is 1 year 4 months old(gunther bear).both dogs have dysplasia..bella has hip problems and gunther has a left front leg issue with pain.i have spent lots of money on xrays for gunther and nothing found so i started him on ester c and msm/glucosomine switched his dog food to royal canin gsd food..i feed them treats that have msm/glucosomine.he also gets massages by me when his paw leg hurts..he knows when it hurts he lifts his paw and hands it to me for a rub...gunther has chronic yeast build up in his ears.i use petco ear wipes every 2 days to keep his ears clean..bella has hip dysplasia so she gets the same treatment except she was bought a pet bed to keep her off the cold ground(indoor) dogs...she also has a pet deep heating rub i put on her hips when they hurts bad..massage,vitamins and healthier food help there pain and keep them at there best.they trust me to take care of them !!!

A gift from Heaven
Gilly has came to my home with 3 children as the owner couldnt care for him no more.. Gilly has brought a smile to my kids evedryday since he was given to us and is more so theraputic for my disabled son. We take good care of Gilly emotional and physically, we even carry him down the stairs because he is scared. He was given his own bed pillow to sleep on...not a doggie beg (that wasnt as comfy). We will work hard at training him with commands

My lil Jumper
I have a very active 6 year old Jack Russel/ Rat Terrier mix named Zoe. Her favorite thing to do besides play with her squeaky toys is chase squirrels. We have a 4 foot cyclone fence around the yard right now and because we have a doggy door she is free to come in and out as she wants which is nice when I'm gone to work because I don't worry about her being stuck in the house all day.
The past few weeks I have caught her jumping the fence into the neighbors yards and even a couple of times into the front yard which is dangerous because then she can cross the street. I now have to close the doggy door when I'm gone because I worry to much she will jump the fence when I am not home. So being a pet-wise parent I am spending about $1,500.00 dollars for a 6ft wood fence that is going up in two weeks. Most people think I am nuts spending that kind of money on a fence just for my dog, but I feel that the safety of my dog is my number one concern.
I look forward to her being able to go in and out of the doggy door again while I am gone to work and I don't have to worry about her getting out. And to make her playing experience even better I am planning to put down all new grass for her to enjoy. So my little angle is costing me close to $2,000.00 but she is worth every penny of it.

Lady Luck
I adopted "Lady" from an elderly lady who was moving into a nursing home. I make sure "Lady" gets the best food which she also enjoys. I feed her Purina Healthy Morsels. She gets to play with two large breed dogs, Tank (he is a Mastiff) and Jake (he is laborador). They all three stimulate each other by playing and taunting each other in our yard. The socialize well together in their environment which is a big yard with a back yard pond. Lady sleeps in our room with her own bed right next to our bed. She recently was stolen from me and with help of her collar and microchip "Lady" Luck was returned to me by a wonderful family!!

Pretty Girl Kashmir

It took us years and a lot of research before our family of four decided to get a dog. Our research lead us to the Great Dane. Not only was this decision going to be a 'huge' undertaking, in more ways than the obvious, but it was going to require a commitment from each of us and our two boys in order to raise a healthy, happy, well-adjusted member of the family and community.
First, because large breeds grow so quickly, we knew we had to fulfill her health needs by not growing her too fast, resulting in joint problems. Holistic Select Large & Giant Breed Puppy Food offered the appropriate amount of protein to allow her to grow at a steady rate and the nutrients required for a healthy digestive tract and shiny coat.

Zac's Life
Zac is well cared for. He goes to Petco for his grooming and he just had his teeth cleaned. He gets his teeth brushed everyday and takes his vitamins everyday. Zac gets to go to the dog park and play with other dogs along with his sister. He loves his life and gets lots of tummy rubs and loves to play fetch.

Neediest Dog at the shelter!
We went to HSOY as a foster parent to pick up our next"child. This poor dog in the cage had very little fur, was skin an bones and have scars from a fight. They did not know what breed it really was or its age. We took her home and introduced her to our 70lb lab mix. No fight! She was less than 20 lbs. That first day we gave her lots of love and started working on getting to improve her health. She was not used to being ina ngated yard after being found on the dessert near the border.
As her health imprived, we found that she was house broken and crate trained. After a month she regrew her coat, a beautiful red fur with white stocking and a white tip on her tail. She looked like a fox so we named her Foxie. The vet checked her out and she was neutered. The nurse that checked us in said you have a "cattle Dog. Tests confirmed that she was indeed a beautiful cattle dog. After two months of recovery it was time to take Foxie to petco for adoption. y wife and I looked at each other and said this is too good of a dog to give way... so we now own Foxie and she travels the nation as we work as summer missionaries.
After we pass the border patrol checkpoints we always smile. Is Foxie a natural US citizen or does she need a green card!

Jasmine's Journey
Jasmine Is my seven year old blue doberman pincher. I have had her for about 6 years now. Shortly after she came to live with me she began to have terrible skin problems. Her skin was scalely and she developed puscular skin infections. Not only was her problem uncomfortable for her but it also caused her to have a fowl odor. At one point I was had togive her 3 baths a week. I took her to the Vetranarians and she had been on antibiodics and at one point she was put on steriod shots. It became very frustraing to me, so much so that I was tempted to surrrender her to a rescue. However she had become a part of my family and giving her up was out of the question. I contacted someone from a doberman rescue to see what suggestions they might have for me. Their advice was invaluable. They told me to get her on the best dog food that I could afford. After trying several kinds of dog foods I began to feed her Holistic Select Fish blend. Along with the food I try to get her out for regular exercise. She is very energetic and loves to go for walks and runs
After about 3 months I began to notice much improvement in her skin. Over the last 5 years I have continued to feed her the Holistic Select food and her skin condition continues to improve. At this time her hair and skin are at the best they have ever been. This is Jasmines jouney from being sad and unhealthy to happy and healthy
